How To Fall In Love With Your Home This Valentine’s Day

February 10, 2018 | Valentines

Valentine’s Day creeps up on us fast and we’ll soon be collecting cards and munching on heart-shaped chocolates. While it may originally be a day to celebrate those we love, why can’t it also act as a reminder to love the things around us as well? Whether you’re a brand new home owner, moving on or just moving in, here are a few easy ways to show your home (new or old) some love:

1. Clean
In a perfect world, you’d have time to deep clean your entire house before Valentine’s Day but the reality is that it’s way too lofty of a goal. Instead of spreading yourself thin over the whole house, choose one room that you spend a lot of time in and clean it from top to bottom. We’re talking washing the walls, scrubbing the door frames, dusting the blinds and everything in between. Once you’re done, we guarantee it’ll feel like a breathe of fresh air!

2. De-clutter
Now is a great time to get rid of items that have been building up over time and taking up valuable living space. Whether it’s old decor, clothing or books, it’ll help to open up your space and give you the opportunity to brighten someone else’s day with your donation.

3. Add Flowers
Treat yourself (and your house) to a fresh bouquet of flowers just because! The right flowers can help relieve anxiety, improve your sleep, boost your brain power and even make you more productive. The colour of your blooms can even have an affect on your overall mood so choose wisely.

4. Paint
A simple coat of paint can make a world of difference in an outdated, dark or boring room. It can even breathe new life into old cupboards in the kitchen or furniture around the house. Invest in this small (but bold) change that can also double as a fun family project or game.

5. Find Your Scent
There’s no doubt that there’s something calming and reassuring about the smell of home. For some it’s a bold perfume, for others it’s the soft scent of a frequently used laundry detergent. Think about which scents you gravitate to in the beauty aisle and apply that to your home fragrance. Pick up some candles and oils or try boiling a pot of water on the stove and adding in some fresh herbs and spices.

How do you show your home some love on a regular basis?
